1. Pre-Visit Preparation
Before your appointment, you’ll be asked to provide relevant imaging (X-rays, MRIs), operative reports, and treatment history. This allows us to hit the ground running with a full understanding of your background.
2. Intake with Our Medical Assistant
Your visit begins with a detailed intake covering medications, allergies, medical conditions, symptoms, medical history and your functional goals. This conversation sets the stage for an informed evaluation.
3. Case Review by Dr. Mazzola
While the assistant is gathering your history, Dr. Mazzola is reviewing your records and prepping for your case. By the time he enters the room, he’s already building a clinical picture and formulating targeted questions.
4. Focused Q&A with Dr. Mazzola
Dr. Mazzola spends time digging into how your injury or pain is impacting your life, identifying specific limitations, understanding your goals for treatment, clarifying your history of the problem and narrowing in on the likely pain generators.
5. Comprehensive Physical Exam
The hands-on portion of the evaluation is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL. This is where the body “tells its story.” During our highly detailed biomechanical examination, wee look for strength imbalances, mechanical dysfunction, and areas of instability or compensatory movement patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms. This Physical Exam leads us to where the regenerative treatments will be needed, then at the time of the actual treatment we use ultrasound guided numbing injections to visually see the injuries.
6. Real-Time Ultrasound Imaging If Indicated
This initial visit MAY include a diagnostic ultrasound, but often there is not time nor necessity to do a diagnostic ULTRASOUND exam at the first visit. This is for 2 reasons: 1) Static imaging without injections are limited in their ability to detect most myofascial injuries and 2) Imaging can look abnormal even when strength and function are still normal- we don’t treat just because something looks abnormal, even on MRI. The abnormality seen needs to correspond to an abnormal Physical Exam- so we spend most of our time on the detailed Physical Exam discussed above. Typically, we’ll use Ultrasound Guided numbing injections at the actual treatment appointment to precisely identify areas of injury for regenerative treatments.
7. Customized Treatment Plan
Based on your history, clinical exam and imaging, we will build a targeted treatment plan. This may include PRP, prolotherapy, bone marrow concentrate, or fat-derived stem cell therapy. You’ll receive a detailed quote along with educational materials about the treatment options, preparation steps and post-procedural restrictions.
8. Pre-Procedure Counseling and Next Steps
At this complementary 60 minute pre-procedural discussion, wee guide you through the next phase of your treatment plan—whether that’s pre-treatment physical therapy, nutritional support, supplement recommendations, how the regenerative treatments work or post procedural restrictions. Everything is designed to prepare your mind and body for the best possible outcome.
This is not a quick “in-and-out” appointment—it’s an in-depth question and answer session that puts you at the center of the conversation. Our goal is simple: provide clarity for what will happen at your regenerative treatment and how to optimize the success of your procedure. We want you to feel confident going into the procedure visit.
